UG Student received Scholarship from Surya Narayan Seva Outreach Sang
by Administrator
Sep 04, 2010
sos1.jpgSN SOS extended its helping hands once again.  On 5/30/2010 it awarded a 2010-11 Scholarship to Dindial Mohan, a deserving student of No. 50 Village, Corentyne, Berbice.  Dindial was selected based on a number of factors:  (i) he is currently a Hindu priest in his community; (ii) he is a teacher at Tagore Memorial Secondary School; (iii) he is the bread-winner of his family, consisting of his mother and grandmother; and (iv) he has successfully passed eight subjects at the GCE O’Levels and CXC examination.  Although Dindial is already accomplished at this young age and despite the many hurdles he is faced with, he is still committed to further his studies at the University of Guyana.   Based on this commitment and the many other positive factors, SN SOS is of the belief that Dindial is a role-model who will be an invaluable asset to his community, and thus a perfect candidate for the scholarship. The members of SN SOS would like to congratulate Dindial Mohan on this well deserved Scholarship and wish him continued success. Pandit Ram Hardowar, a Director of SN SOS and Spiritual Acharya of Shri Surya Narayan Mandir remarked that with Saraswati Ma’s blessings the scholarship should enable Dindial to continue his educational endeavors so that he can achieve his individual goals as well as increase his contribution to society.

Guru Purnima
by Rohan Bisram
Aug 06, 2010

ImageSunday , July 25th was a special day at Shri Surya Narayan Mandir (SSNM).  Devotees and about 135 youths attending the annual spiritual youth camp observe a special session of Guru Purnima. Guru Purnima is the day set aside for worship, special recognition, and to give thanks to one’s Guru for his teachings and direction that he provides to his Chelas and devotees.   As stated in our Shastras it is only through the Guru’s blessings that one can realize the truth about who they are, and gain Moksha.    SSNM is a teaching institution and on this day the teaching continued.   The master of ceremony Anandji did a beautiful job in explaining to the devotees, and especially the children in attendance who the Guru is, and why we need a Guru.     In essence the Guru is Bhagawan in the form of a man; he is the remover of darkness.   He brings light and happiness to his Chelas life by lifting the veil of Maya that encompasses them.

FL - Pt. Sewram debut as Vyasji in Florida
by Varun Hardowar
Aug 06, 2010
The devotees of SSNM-Florida were delighted to join in a 4 session Ramayan Yagna from July 22nd – 25th, 2010. The Yagna was officiated by Pt. Sewram Hardowar, the youngest son of our late Dharmacharya, Pt. Hardowar Panday. The Yagna was much anticipated by the devotees in Florida, all of whom yearned to listen to Pt. Sewram expound on the glories of the sacred Hindu text, the  Ramcharitmanas.  The Yagna was historic in that it marked the first time Pt. Sewram officiated a Yagna, serving as the Vyasji, in the Florida mandir.   As expected, Pt. Sewram performed masterfully as he delivered powerful and awe-inspiring messages from the Ramayan, leaving the audience yearning for more.  The members of SSNM-Florida express tremendous gratitude to Pt. Sewram as well as his family and anxiously anticipate their return.

FL - FLORIDA Mandir Completes Camp 2010
by Varsha Hardowar
Jul 14, 2010
Shri Surya Narayan Mandir (Florida) is proud to announce the successful completion of our 6th Annual Spiritual Retreat/Youth Camp.  Much to our delight, approximately 70 students attended the Youth Camp.   The number of students in attendance has steadily progressed since the inception of the Youth Camp in Florida.

We were fortunate to have our resident pandit, Dr. Vishnu Hardowar, in attendance as the Camp Director.  Pt. Vishnu was assisted by Natasha Singh, Varsha Hardowar and Vijay Hardowar.  Additionally, Pt. Narain Harpaul and his daughter, Bahenji Arati, were present throughout the week.

Each day Youth Camp commenced with the students performing salutations to Surya Narayan Bhagwan followed by hawan and prayers.  Subsequently, the camp leaders and other senior campers led discussions pertaining to matters including but not limited to the basic tenets of Hinduism, Hindu philosophy, and other controversial topics, such as the Hindu perspective on issues such as abortion, interracial marriage and capital punishment.  On a lighter note, the students had ample opportunity to interact with each other and display their skill sets through activities such as music, dance and skit.
